The sports media outlet Relevo recently published an article about the semi-automatic offside technology used in LaLiga, in which STT Systems was mentioned as a reference company in 3D motion analysis solutions.
In the article, our engineers explain how these systems, similar to those developed at STT Systems, enable the analysis of the athlete’s gait, sports technique, and movement with millimetric precision. The report highlights that the semi-automatic system, approved by FIFA and LaLiga, operates through multiple synchronized cameras and 3D biomechanical models composed of 29 body markers, capturing up to 50 frames per second.
As noted in the piece, even such advanced technology may have a margin of error below 0.003%, yet its accuracy remains far superior to human refereeing. The interaction between sport and technology continues to evolve, transforming performance analysis and the accuracy of decision-making in professional football.
